High Point University to Host High School Field Hockey Clinic in July

Who:High school field hockey players.

High Point University Club Team will host a July high school field hockey clinic in Southern Virginia at the Smith River Sports Complex.

What: High Point University Club Team, Field Hockey Clinic. The day includes skills for both the field players & goalies.

When: Sat., July 23, 2011 10:00am-3:00pm

Summer Camp @ Sportsplex, Dates Changed!

A field hockey summer camp will be held at Greensboro Sportsplex June 14 to June 18 for girls ages 14 to 18, and rising freshmen.

Field hockey players ages 14 to 18, including rising freshmen, are welcome to train at a June indoor summer field hockey camp. The camp will be coached by Jana Benscoter, Northwest Guilford High School head field hockey coach and Greensboro Youth Field Hockey League director, and area coaches. The camp is guaranteed, rain or shine. Sign up today! A minimum of 10 players is required.

Who: Girls ages 14 to 18, and rising freshmen

What: Field hockey training, including skill development and scrimmages

When: June 14 to 17, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and June 18, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (Dates changed due to a graduation lock-in being held at Sportsplex Monday night!)

Greensboro Adult Field Hockey Club vs. Carolina Club Team

Greensboro Adult League players competed against Carolina Club team for the first time in 2011. Carolina is looking for a rematch.

Ages 16 and up are invited to play against Carolina Club team. Players ages 14 and 15, who have experience playing at a competitive level, are also allowed to play (or come recommended by a coach). It’s free. We will wear red shirts, black shorts and black socks. Game will begin at 8 p.m., so try to arrive 15 minutes earlier to warm up. They have six to eight players already committed. I need to know as soon as possible if you can play. Players who want to participate can form a car pool from Greensboro. High school coaches, please share with your players. Rematch Against UNC Field Hockey Club Team

The Greensboro Adult Field Hockey League lost in its first match up against the University of North Carolina Tar Heels club field hockey team. The score was 2-1. There is another opportunity to play the team on Sunday, March 27 on their turf. Please email Jana at info@gyfhl.com if you want to play. Ideally, we would like a minimum of 10 players and goalies are welcome!! The game is free. We wear red shirts, black shorts and socks. Details on time and parking will be sent at a later date.

Adult League Spring Competition Warming Up Against Wake Forest Club Team

Wake Forest University has the turf field on Saturday, April 16th.  Club captain Pam Fazio is putting together a round robin tourney. Email Jana at info@gyfhl.com if you are interested in playing. Greensboro adult league is for men and women, ages 16 and up.

GAFHL competed against Wake Forest Club Team last spring on their turf. The club team is looking for a rematch. Wake Forest won 2-1 in 2010.

High Point University Hosts April Clinic

An all-day skills clinic will be hosted by High Point University Club team on April 16 at the Smith River Complex in Axton, Va for both field players and goalies. The cost is $25 per player. A reduced cost will be offered to teams of seven. The clinic will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. Contact HPU club field hockey coach Tara Shollenberger at tshollen@highpoint.edu.

Indoor field hockey at Sportsplex begins this month.

Private indoor winter and spring field hockey training for high school girls at Sportsplex kicks off this month. Below you will find registration details. Beginners are always welcomed!
Who: 14 to 18 year olds
What: Field hockey on indoor turf
Where: Greensboro Sportsplex, 2400 16th Street, Greensboro, NC
Dates: Feb. 26; March 5, 12, 19, 16; April 2, 9, 16, 20; May 7
Time: 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Cost: $100 per player, or contact Jana at info@gyfhl.com to set up an arrangement.
Equipment: stick, shinguards, mouthguard and sneakers. contact Jana at info@gyfhl.com with equipment questions.  

Adult league begins Feb. 24 and runs for 10 consecutive weeks on Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. $6 per player, we will collect the money on the field and drop off at front desk for SoccerOp. Adults do not need to register. Just bring stick, shinguards and mouthguard. You can play without both shinguards and mouthguard at your own risk. Adult league is for men and women, ages 16 and up.
